  • AREA

In the east part of the island, 12 kilometers away from the center with easy access, it is Kalafatis beach with its famous tamarisk trees. Very beautiful with crystal waters and beach-bars, restaurants, water sports, diving and facilities for beach volleyball. Peaceful and away from the fashionable crowds, it is the perfect spot for families and windsurfing. Just next to Kalafatis, there are the beaches of Draoumia and Tafarnis, two fishing hamlets both sandy with tamarisk trees, less busy than the more popular beaches. Many restaurants can be found in the area often specializing in local seafood dishes, such as Thalassa and Petrino. From this point, you can catch boats for Τragonisi, an islet off the east coast which has many caves, some of which are said to be populated by the rare monk seal.

Kalafatis is just next to the calm bay of Agia Anna and in a radius of 3 km you reach the famous beaches of Elia, with “Elia restaurant”, Kalo Livadi with “Solymar” and “Altro” and the traditional village of Ano Mera, where you can find traditional taverns, such as “Odos Araxame”, “To steki tou proedrou”, “Oti apomeine”, “Tsaf” for sea food, where you will taste homemade local recipes and enjoy warm hospitality. There are also the historic monastery of Panagia Tourliani, founded in the 15th century, many shops to buy tobaccos, newspapers and magazines, bakery, super market, fishmonger, greengrocer, costermonger, pharmacy, parapharmacy, playground, basketball court and many small stores for shopping.
